Two big name stars in a decline look to obtain live animals for their pictures. One of the men is the great Jimmy Durante and to be the one to get his hands on these live animals he throws one of the most lavish Hollywood Parties that has ever graced the town. Guests include movie stars, royalty, and rich oil barons. When Durante's competition crashes the party, posing as royalty to get his hands on the rich oil baron's money, things don't go as planned for almost everybody. Hilarity and fantasy collide in this explosion of eye candy and machine gun jokes.

Over the years there’s been some pretty big movies released, and not just because of their budget or director, but because their jam packed with stars we all know and love. Hollywood Party Might not be a familiar title to people in my age group but if you were around in the mid-30’s and beyond you’ll probably know it. Why? You may ask. Like many of the films that have come out in the past few years like Love Actually, Valentines Day, and He’s Just Not That Into you, Hollywood Party is a veritable whose who of Hollywood of yesteryear. Among the many familiar names that pop up are Ted Healy and The Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy, Lupe Velez, Polly Moran, Jimmy Durante, and even Mickey Mouse. Yup, you heard me right. Mickey Mouse makes an appearance in the film as a character in the story.

On top of the huge cast the film also see’s a number of music and dance acts as well as an animated cartoon interwoven into the film, and a proverbial kitchen sink of jokes, skits, and what have you. Its simply a very rich and fulfilling 68 minutes of picture and as an added bonus the disc comes with over 35 minutes of alternate takes, pre-recordings, and deleted songs from the film that are a real treat. Really it was a bit of an honor being able to see, for the first time, a little piece of Hollywood that reminds me of what it once was before it became this remake machine that it is today. Huge elaborate sets, fantastic song and dance numbers, and all out goofiness that works simply because it carries with it a charm that can’t be found in today’s films. I highly suggest. Enjoy.
